on VT Savvy Kids Lands Materials
These materials are designed to help with the
teaching of Units for Grades 4 and above that
include land ownership, land ethics and state
land management issues in Vermont.
These units don’t explore the history
of land purchases or management, and don’t
spend a lot time on either real estate as an
economic issue.

Sustainability: 3.9 Students make decisions that
demonstrate understanding of natural and human

Understanding Place: 4.6 Students demonstrate
understanding of the relationship between their
local environment and community heritage and
how each shapes their lives.

Governments and Resources: 6.17 Examine the role
of federal, state and local government in supporting
schools, highways, the social welfare system,
and the care of natural resources and b. identify
the role of government in economic policy and
how it affects individuals and groups (e.g.
taxes, tariffs and public budgets).
