The Division of Forests is responsible for the
development and implementation of programs that protect and manage the
state’s forest resources. The Division uses a combination of services,
including planning, research, technology, education and outreach, and
sound policy- all developed with the involvement of interested and affected
publics- to serve all Vermonters and meet program goals and objectives.
The Division of Forests offers many services to the public. The Division
consists of five broad program areas. Among these programs are:
- Forest Resource Management
- Private Forest Landowner Assistance
- State Lands Management
- Forest Resource Protection
- Forest Health Protection
- Vermont Monitoring Cooperative
- Rural Forest Fire Protection
- Diagnostic Lab
- Forest Product Utilization and Marketing
- Urban and Community Forestry
Overall program development, coordination and administration is conducted
from the central office. However, the Division of Forests is highly
decentralized with a vast majority of employees residing in the five
regional offices. Regional staff are responsible for implementing all
aspects of the forestry operations and activities within their geographic
area.
