Elmore State Park
Middlesex WMA
Middlesex Notch WMA
Worcester Woods WMA

The Agency of Natural Resources is currently developing a Long-Range Management Plan for the lands which make up 15,510 acres of the Worcester Range Management Unit. Those lands include C.C. Putnam State Forest (13,470 acres), Elmore State Park (940 acres) and Middlesex Wildlife Management Area (290 acres by conservation easement), Middlesex Notch Wildlife Management Area (627 acres) and Worcester Woods Wildlife Management Area (184 acres). These ownerships are located in the Towns of Elmore, Waterbury, Stowe, Middlesex, and Worcester, Vermont.
This large land base of forest functions as important habitat for many neo-tropical songbirds. The presence of large blocks of red oak forest make this an important black bear feeding area. The State of Vermont while not owning the lands which make up Middlesex WMA do have the right to direct the landowner regarding management activities and have ownership of public access rights to the property. There is a popular system of hiking trails in C.C. Putnam State Forest and a developed campground as well as additional hiking trails at Elmore State Park which is located on Lake Elmore.
