Regulations

When compared with other states in the region and nationally, Vermont has very few laws which specifically regulate forestry or forest management activities. However, the Division of Forests does have statutory responsibilities in several diverse regulatory programs related to forests and forestland in Vermont.

These programs can be divided into four broad categories:

Forest Fire Control Laws

Forest Harvesting Laws

Acceptable Management Practices for Maintaining Water Quality on Logging Jobs in Vermont

Heavy Cutting Law

Forest Pest Quarantines

Use of State Lands by Commercial Enterprises
