2005 Forestry Innovation Grant

In 2005 the Department secured a grant through the Watershed and Clean Water Gants Program administered by the USDA Forest Service State & Private Forestry. The grant project focuses on protecting riparian and aquatic habitats during logging operations with a focus on the use of wood portable skidder bridges for temporary stream crossings. Educational efforts include workshops for loggers, forest landowners and foresters that address protecting forest water quality & stream habitats during timber harvesting operations. The use of portable skidder bridges as a Best Management Practice for crossing streams is being demonstrated through workshops, brochures, static displays and the production of a video.
